Want to make a BIG difference in Frederick
County?
Join the 2004 BIG SWEEP!
In just one morning, participants in the 2004 Big Sweep raised
almost $37,000 for 37 nonprofit organizations. To raise
these funds, the participants collected sponsorships from
family, friends, and colleagues who supported the clean-up
of Frederick County. Unlike a walk-a-thon, participants made
a tangible and immediate difference!
Participants were assigned to more
than 50 county roads and illegal dumpsites, and they
collected more than 14 tons of trash and recyclables
and 507 tires.
Participants can designate their collected
pledges to any one of the participating nonprofit organizations
(Volunteer Frederick keeps 25% of collected pledges to cover
the costs of administering the event). A wide variety of nonprofit
organizations participate, from Boy Scout troops to human
service organizations, and they all contribute to the well
being of Frederick County.
In 2004, the top fundraising organizations
were: Frederick County Senior Recreation
Center (raised $7,111)
Brunswick Emergency Relief (raised $3,550)
Boy Scout Troop 270 of Thurmont (raised $2,277)
