Volunteer Frederick works with a number
of different organizations to enrich the after-school and
non-school day experiences of youth. In partnership with the
Frederick County After School Program, we organize in-house
service learning activities as well as day-long service projects
on weekends and days when school is not in session. Some of
these programs may already be running at your school!
Here are some of the activities we
develop on these days:
Spending time with elderly and
disabled individuals to gain a better understanding of the
diverse culture of Frederick County and help with daily
tasks that may be too difficult for someone facing physical
and/or mental challenges
Making crafts and educational tools
for distribution to nonprofit organizations ranging from
assisted living facilities to government aid programs and
educational institutions
Learning about important issues
that are being discussed in the community and participating
in letter writing and poster campaigns to raise awareness
and instill the spirit of community
Assisting the Frederick Health
Department and the Smoke-Free Maryland Coalition in its
efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco
use and its effects on the community
Helping to sort food at the local
food bank to ensure the timely distribution of donated goods
and foods
Participating in mural projects
to raise awareness for universal causes such as appreciation
of diversity and other major world issues
Inviting members of community organizations
to come into the program and educate youth on their mission
and how they relate to youth and the community as a whole
Spending the day volunteering with
Habitat for Humanity in order to provide affordable housing
to people who need it
Much Much More!
